Simenon: "Maigret à Georges New-York" (Presses de la Cité, Paris, 1954) and its American version "Maigret in New York's Underworld" (Double Day & Company, Garden City NY, 1955).


Simenon knew NY particularly well, having lived for several years in Connecticut (in Lakeville), as well as in various places in the United States and in Quebec, for about ten years, plus various 'road trips'.

In fact, many of his books are set in North America: "Three Rooms in Manhattan", "The Rico Brothers", "Maigret at the Coroner’s" etc.

French Edition: 

This is the second edition of this book, dated September 1954; Our copy is one of 100 copies printed on pure vellum.

The first French edition of this book dates from 1947.

American Edition:
