 FIRST EDITION with the Scribner’s “A” and seal on the copyright page.

Original black cloth gilt, spine lettered in gilt on green background (gilt gently rubbed); original unclipped dust jacket. Edgewear, chipping at extreme ends and corners, rubbing at joints, original wholesaler price-fixed sticker on front flap. Narrow tidemark along fore-edge of front board with additional staint to bottom corner. Dampstaining at upper flat folds.

The basis for the Howard Hawks film co–scripted by Faulkner that starred Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall - and her famous line:

 “You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together - and blow.”

2)     « En Avoir ou Pas » : Paris, First Limited Edition, Gallimard 1945

In French, 1 out of 110 on vellum (“Vélin pur fil Lafuma Navarre”) 

Elegant Half- Morocco binding from Adrien Lavaux.

Covers and spine preserved.

Translated by Marcel (and not Maurice) Duhamel, as noted in the erratum (see picture).

Excellent copy overall despite some minimal shelf wear.
