Marguerite Duras' most renowned book, largely autobiographical, won the Prix Goncourt in 1984.
Its fame was further amplified by Jean-Jacques Annaud's film adaptation in 1992. Dissatisfied with the film, Duras revisited her work and published a revised version titled "L'Amant de la Chine du Nord" (Gallimard, 1991).
First French edition: one of the 99 deluxe copies on “Vélin Arches” – ours bearing the number 81.
