Marguerite Duras: “L’amant” (Les Editions de Minuit, Paris, 1984) and its American version “The Lover” (Pantheon Books, NY,1985).

Marguerite Duras' most renowned book, largely autobiographical, won the Prix Goncourt in 1984.

Its fame was further amplified by Jean-Jacques Annaud's film adaptation in 1992. Dissatisfied with the film, Duras revisited her work and published a revised version titled "L'Amant de la Chine du Nord" (Gallimard, 1991).
