Marcel Proust // Les Plaisirs et Les Jours
Paris, Gallimard, 1924
1924 Edition
Les Plaisirs et les Jours (Pleasures and Days) is a collection of prose poems and short stories
first published in 1896 by Calmann-Lévy, with a preface by Anatole France, illustrations by
Madeleine Lemaire, and four piano pieces by Reynaldo Hahn.
It was the author’s first book, one he later tried to keep from being reprinted while he was at
work on his great masterpiece, À la Recherche du Temps Perdu (In Search of Lost Time). In any
case, the 1896 edition sold quite poorly.
We are offering the 1924 edition (Proust had joined Gallimard in 1916; first published book by
Gallimard in 1917), issued two years after the author’s death. This is the copy number 90 of the
392 octavo copies printed on Vélin pur fil Lafuma Navarre, following 113 quarto copies on
Vergé pur fil.
A fine, beautifully preserved copy, in wrappers, untrimmed, with no trace of spotting or foxing,
no inscriptions, and no defects.
