André Gide // Le Retour du Tchad - Suite du Voyage au Congo
Paris, Éditions de la NRF, 1928
First Edition (Numbered Copy)
"The Return from Chad" is the sequel to the "Journey to the Congo", a story published the previous year, as the title of the book indicates.
The result of Gide's stay of nearly a year in Equatorial Africa, which began in 1926 (Gide, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1947, was then 56 years old), the book is one of the great travel narratives of French literature. He was also a rather harsh critic of the French colonial administration.
First edition, one of the 1200 numbered copies intended for the "Amis de l'Edition Originale" (ours bearing the number 166) on pure thread vellum after 120 reimposed on Lafuma Navarre.
Include four maps.
Unopened, in fine condition (book written in French).
