First Limited French edition: one of 110 on Vellum, numbered from A to J and in Roman numerals from I to C, this one being the number I.
It was the first of Hemingway’s book published in French, collecting the title story and five others: "Mon vieux", "L’invincible", "Le champion", "Le village indien" and "Les tueurs".
The short story "Fifty Grand", was first published in 1927 in "The Atlantic Monthly" and later the same year in "Men without Women". The title has then no English-language equivalent.
A distinguished copy, inscribed by the book translator, Ott de Weymer, to Louis-Daniel Hirsch, who was the Director of Sales of Gallimard from 1922 to 1974: "A M. Louis-Daniel Hirsch/ En témoignage et sympathie / Ott de Weymer"
Printed wrappers. Mild toning to spine and front wrapper extremities, with small faint stain to upper margin of front wrapper; clean throughout, with pages unopened. Near fine.
