Truman Capote // In Cold Blood

New York, Random House, 1965

First Edition

Book:

“In Cold Blood” is a fact-based account (or “non-fiction novel” as also called) of the 1959 murders of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas.

It was initially published (1965) in a four-part series in The New Yorker magazine.

It is one of Capote most popular books, for which he conducted much research. He traveled to Kansas (including, with Harper Lee -they were cousins), met with the investigators and the men ultimately convicted of the crime etc.

The intriguing murder mystery and Capote’s captivating writing make the book a literary classic, based on which the 1967 film “In Cold Blood” was written.

The 2005 film “Capote”, with Philip Seymour Hoffman in the title role, also traced the events that happened before and during the writing of the book. It received several awards.

First edition, first printing. Publisher’s marron cloth, stamped in silver and gilt, maroon endpapers, top edge stained black; in the original tan dust jacket designed by S. Neil Fujita, lettered in maroon and black. About fine (bottom corner of front board bumped); in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket with mild wear to the extremities. Overall, a nice copy.
