André Malraux // Antimémoires
Paris, Gallimard, 1967
First Limited Edition
First Limited French edition - one of the first 80 copies (n° 64) on Holland paper, before 310 on Vellum.
These memoirs constitute the first part of “The Miroir des Limbes”, and remain undoubtedly the most exciting work of Malraux's last years.
“Why remember? ", he wonders in the opening of the Antimémoires, evoking the chaplain of the Glières plateau, for whom "there are no great people".
Jean Schlumberger admired in the Antimémoires its "secret architecture": on October 9, 1967, he wrote aptly to Malraux what remains a very fine analysis of this book: "[...] you are a man in whose feelings death has wreaked havoc; [...] Behind your eloquence there is this silent note to which I attach more value than to eloquence" - this famous eloquence, which Malraux had so much trouble getting rid of, which will earn him some criticism. Nevertheless, as Jean Schlumberger had felt: "The whole end of your book did not only interest me: it moved me."
Offered in the same beautiful binding signed by Henri Duhayon, identical to the other books in the series. Cornered black half-morocco, gilt title (head) and date (foot), cover and spine preserved, lined case.
In perfect condition.
